Big Brother 9 in February?!?! Thanks writers strike!
Indeed, in anticipation of a strike, the network quietly began casting for the next edition of the show a few weeks ago.
Executive producer Allison Grodner is also said to be working on a new creative twist for the Julie Chen-hosted series, in which a group of strangers live together in a house for three months.
The trade adds that the next edition of "Big Brother" might actually use celebrities, as opposed to ordinary people.

What happens if the Writer's strike?
With Hollywood writers poised to log off their laptops as soon as Thursday, TV networks were bracing for the need to fill the airwaves with reality shows, game shows and even reruns if a threatened strike devours their script inventory.
Viewers could start seeing an onslaught of unscripted entertainment by early next year, when popular series such as Desperate Housewives and Heroes run out of new episodes.
Members of the Writers Guild of America and the group representing film and TV producers were set to meet Tuesday with a federal mediator after scant progress in contentious talks that have dragged on since July.
With the current contract set to expire at midnight Wednesday, negotiators remain far apart on the central issue of raising payment for profits on DVDs and shows offered digitally on the Internet, cellphones and other devices.
More than 5,000 members of the Writers Guild of America recently voted, with 90% authorizing negotiators to call the first strike since 1988 if necessary.
If writers walk out, the effect wouldn't be felt immediately. Networks have enough episodes of shows such as Ugly Betty and CSI written and in production to last at least through the end of the year and possibly into next February, industry executives and analysts said.
But after that, schedules will run into trouble.
Producers already have tried to hurry shooting in preparation for a strike but not always successfully.
The CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother was asked by 20th Century Fox Television to shoot an extra episode during a planned production break last week.

Ousted Shock Jock, Don Imus, finally returning to the air!
Ousted radio personality Don Imus, who was fired from his CBS show last April after calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos," will make his comeback on the air on Dec. 1, according to the New York Daily News.WABC has hired Imus for the morning spot, currently occupied by Curtis Sliwa and Ron Kuby.
Imus, who refused to comment about on his return, recently settled a wrongful-termination lawsuit with his former employers for a reported $20 million.
When asked about Imus' new show, Rutgers women's coach Vivian Stringer said, "He has every right to go back on the air."
Don Imus, you can call me a nappy-headed hoe any day of the week!

Dan Rather to CBS: I'll see you in Court!
Dan Rather filed a $70 million lawsuit Wednesday against CBS, claiming the network made him a "scapegoat" for a discredited story about President Bush's military service. The 75-year-old Rather, whose final months were clouded by controversy over the report, says the complaint stems from "CBS' intentional mishandling" of the aftermath of the story.
The lawsuit, filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan, also names CBS President and CEO Leslie Moonves, Viacom Inc. Chairman Sumner Redstone, and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward.
Rather, the former anchorman of the CBS Evening News, is seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $50 million in punitive damages.
CBS spokesman Dana McClintock said: "These complaints are old news, and this lawsuit is without merit."
Rather narrated the September 2004 report that claimed President Bush skirted some of his duties during his National Guard service and that a commander felt pressured to sugarcoat Bush's record. He maintains the story was true.
But an independent review for the network determined the story was neither fair nor accurate. CBS fired three news executives and a producer for airing it.
