What You Should be Watching 2.

Earlier today Random Villain posted the first in this series of new blogs, and invited the rest of our crack writing staff to join in. So here I am, with my first entry.

FRINGE.

As a fan of pretty much everything J.J. Abrams touches (which always turns to gold) I obviously tuned in to Fringe from the git-go. Set in and around Boston, Fringe follows a small team of people, more or less completing paranormal investigations, comprised of FBI Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), Dr. Walter Bishop, Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson), and a few of Agent Dunham's FBI colleagues. The central plot of Fringe is that the FBI has had no choice but to team team up with an institutionalized scientist, Walter Bishop, who in his hey-day was known for performing experiments on the fringe of real science, and his son, Peter Bishop, to investigate weird crimes that are seemingly part of a larger pattern (which they actually refer to as The Pattern), and may be connected with a global company called Massive Dynamic.

Fringe, which is classified as a serialized drama, is not unlike other Abrams projects LOST and Alias, in which a centralized plot plays background to various individual cases and stories. The team is trying to find out why The Pattern is happening, and who or what is behind it. Episodes usually involve a case that is a result of The Pattern, so we see the team trying to solve the case, while also figuring out how it all ties together. The action is exciting, the pace is most often fast, there's actually a sense of realism, mixed in with fantasy, and enough of a comedic presence to keep it from being dull, and not to mention the story is captivating. There is no better way to say it other than: This show is the complete package.

If you're a fan of J.J. Abrams, or really just a fan of good science fiction, this is definitely a show you want to check out. It's currently on it's winter hiatus, and won't return until Mid January, so you have plenty of time to get caught up. Paramount: Star Trek to be delayed FIVE Months!

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

According to Variety Magazine, Paramount is undergoing some scheduling changes. The one standing out the most, however, is the JJ Abrams penned "Star Trek". Originally slated to hit theatres in December 2008, Trek has now been pushed back to May 8th, 2009. Paramount believes that date to be more profitable. JJ Abrams is reported to be okay with the decision, since it now gives him the opportunity to do script changes, he was otherwise unable to do, thanks to the Writer's Strike.

I think this really sucks, as I was looking forward to seeing the movie. Now we get to wait over a year before it finally comes out.

JJ Abrams Star Trek Teaser Trailer

A shitty cell phone camera quality bootleg of the teaser hit online last week. But this is the HD/Quicktime clear and pretty version for you to enjoy. I am pretty excited about this, I dig me some Trek. I was raised on it. My parents were, trekkers, or trekkies. They didn't dress in uniforms and decorate our house to resemble a starship. They merely just never missed an episode of the original series, or the next generation, or deep space nine, voyager, enterprise, and watched all the movies. As for myself I only watched some of the original series and next generation. And I dug the movies up until Generations, after that things just went to shit.

First Image Of The U.S.S. Enterprise

This is your first glimpse of the under construction Enterprise from the J.J. Abrams movie, Star Trek, or as we here at my work call it, Star Trek Babies. The official teaser trailer should debut online either today, or tomorrow. But it will be with prints of Cloverfield starting tonight at Midnight.

Star Trek trailer to debut with Cloverfield!

MTV.com reported that the first teaser trailer for J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek film will be attached to Cloverfield, which Abrams is producing and which hits theaters on Jan. 18.

Cloverfield director Matt Reeves has seen the trailer and told MTV.com that "it's amazing, and it looks pretty incredible."

Reeves added: "I thought 'Well, this does look completely different and new.' But while having all the stuff that will make fans of Star Trek still feel fulfilled."

Reeves, a longtime associate of Abrams from their days on TV's Felicity, added that he has seen some footage from the top-secret Trek movie.

"I've seen little bits of the movie, too, and I feel that way as well," Reeves said. "He's doing an amazing job. It's very exciting. It's not your grandfather's Star Trek, that's for sure." Star Trek is slated for release on Christmas Day 2008.

Exclusive: "Cloverfield" Poster, Straight from Comic-Con!

Here's a first look at the poster for the still untitled "Cloverfield" project, straight from San Diego's Comic-Con!

The untitled Cloverfield project remains untitled.

Fans were hoping that director J.J. Abrams would release the name of the film that has created so much stir with its trailer, a grainy coming attraction that looks like The Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla on Independence Day. No one is even sure how it become the Cloverfield project.

Abrams wasn't saying much about the picture, which he is producing, though he did offer, "I had taken my son to Japan, and there were all these Godzilla dolls everywhere. I decided we needed our own monster. We're not showing any footage, but we're almost done shooting, and I think you'll love it. We aren't revealing a title today."
